Private Trumpet Lessons Policy

Phil teaches a limited number of private lessons.  (Currently, there is a waiting list)

PRACTICE EXPECTATIONS

Each student is expected to practice every day for the amount of time that I have assigned. The amount of time that I assign is based on my judgment of what is necessary and helpful for the student. If practice habits become slack, the student will be put on "probation". The student will then have four weeks of minimum practice time assigned at 5 days per week at 20 minutes per day with a record of this practice signed by a parent. If that expectation is not met, the student will be asked to withdraw from lessons. It is in the student's best interest if he/she will get into the habit of practicing at the same time every day. This practice time needs to be treated as if you are conditioning for a sport! Learning to play with trumpet takes a lot of self-discipline. My hope is not to simply teach breathing, notes, rhythms, musical facts, etc, but along with that to teach the love for music.

ABSENCES

  • Teacher absent - If I need to be absent, we find a time to a make-up lesson that will work for both of us.

  • Student absent - If the student needs to be absent, and I am notified at least 24 hours in advance, we find a time to do a make-up lesson that will work for both of us. Please understand that you are paying for that specific time slot that we have scheduled and that I have set aside that specific time for you.

FEES

  • During the school year, the fee is $100 per month .

  • In the summer months, I simply charge $25 for each lesson, due to vacations, camps, etc. Just let me know at the beginning of the month when you'll be gone and I'll do the same. Payment is expected at the beginning of the month.
